After working as a commercial artist for a period, Howard Post decided in 1980 to paint the lifestyle he knew best – the Arizona ranch traditions and the Arizona landscape. Booth Photography Guild Annual Exhibition August 24 – November 7, 2021. This juried exhibition features the work who are members of the Booth Photography Guild, a group that meets monthly for educational photographic programs. Nearly 40 paintings exposed viewers to the full range of Tom Gilleon’s subjects, including grain elevators, Indians, horses, landscapes, and nine panel grid paintings reminiscent of Andy Warhol. The deserts, architecture, and arid landscapes of the Southwest are primary influences for Speer’s work. Viewers also enjoyed seeing vibrant works the artist says she creates intuitively. Both classic and lesser-known Curtis photographs of women, their artwork and the environment in which they lived, from the internationally acclaimed Christopher G. Cardozo Collection, were incorporated in the exhibition. Kelsey grew up on a ranch near Bozeman, Montana. Harry Teague suffered two strokes in the 1990s. His depictions of explorers of new frontiers extend from high elevations to space travel. Based in Santa Fe, Barbara Bowles has traveled the Southwestern United States discovering unique subjects for her photography, including junkyards. Paul’s depictions of mountain men in both oil and pencil are highly prized by collectors. Many of the works were painted on location. These five exceptional artists live and work in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This exhibition included more than 20 works of art by famed Western artist Paul Calle and his talented son Chris. For eight of these artists, this was the first time a piece of their work was exhibited at the Booth. Route 66 has provided consistent subject matter for Middlekauff for years; however, an invitation from the Booth Museum to explore Highway 41 was an opportunity he readily accepted.
